It’s Women’s History Month! Celebrate female scientists past & present, like the Academy’s heroic botanist Alice Eastwood. Eastwood saved 1,497 irreplaceable specimens in the 1906 earthquake, protecting them while her own home burned down in the fires. By the time of her retirement, the Academy’s Herbarium contained over 350,000 specimens and Eastwood had over 300 publications to her name. She is remembered as an inspiring scholar and tireless advocate of Western botany.
